Surrealist Art Show - opening

Galería Casa Diana is pleased to present a group exhibition of new works by surrealist artists with an opening reception on Friday, March 15th, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m on Recreo street n.48, centro. The artists featured in the show are Maike Kreichgauer and Rodrigo Orozco.

At the opening, enter the curious and fantastical realm of the young and promising Rodrigo Orozco whose paintings and sculptures are enchantingly obscure and whimsical; these incorporate characters taken from the short films animated, designed and directed by the talented filmmaker from Morelia.

He has held nine individual exhibitions and also crafted three short films: his first one, La Hora de los Sueños (2015) was awarded the Best Animated Short Film Awards at the Babel Cuzco Festival, Peru (2016) and at the Hidden Door Festival, Scotland (2016). Rodrigo has been selected several times by the International Film Festival in Morelia. He is currently working on the production of his next short film El Sauce Funebre.

His overflowing imagination has caught the eye of Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro as well as another filmmaker, Luis Tellez, who says:
"In his animations lies a voice of his own creative genius, eerie atmospheres. Rodrigo is not without the influence of the great surrealists such as Remedios Varos, Beksinski, or Jacek Yerka. All the while, he moves away from the Aristotelian narrative, in an almost Kafkaesque way, he searches and plays with the structure of dreams themselves; he invites the viewer to unveil mysteries and to walk alongside fantastic beings.”

In this meeting of surrealist artists, you will also uncover the work of Maike Kreichgauer, whose poetic paintings captivate the viewer with the details, stories and curiosities hidden within her brimming oils and temperas. Delightful and delicate, her brushstrokes create a new and luminous vocabulary for painting dreams.
“Crocodile with cherries, these always appear in my dreams. I don’t know why; maybe they signify fun and joie de vivre? To me water-drops, plants, and bubbles are symbols I use to show how we all are One with the cycle of the elements: water, earth air, and fire: I think of pearls from the sea as water and as something feminine.”

In her series of paintings with dreamcatchers, Maike talks about how these contraptions depict the cycle of life: they catch symbols of love, unity, and a mix of different cultures and meanings: “Similarly, the plant knots are Celtic, yet I mix them with Mexican and European symbols.” Hummingbirds are also recurring themes in her work: “I think back to my two years living in Mexico when so many were on my doorstep; colibries, to me, are Happiness, exotic, tiny, funny and colorful.”

The German artist born in Mannheim in 1972, lived and worked in San Luis Potosí for two years. She took inspiration from the great surrealists who lived in Mexico such as Leonora Carrington, Edward James, Remedios Varo and Frida Kahlo. Maike has illustrated several children's books and published her own collection of stories, poems, calendars and postcards.

The Group Exhibition will run through April 22, 2019. Galería Casa Diana se complace en invitarle a su exposición colectiva inaugurando con un coctel el Viernes 15 de Marzo de 6:00 a 8:00 p.m. La muestra colectiva presenta obra reciente de Maike Kreichgauer y Rodrigo Orozco.

En este encuentro de artistas surrealistas, descubre la desbordante imaginación del artista Rodrigo Orozco con sus curiosas y fantásticas pinturas y esculturas. Diviértete en su absurdo y sorprendente universo de personajes salidos de cortometrajes diseñados, animados y dirigidos, por el joven realizador de Morelia. Ha participado en nueve exposiciones individuales de artes plásticas y también dirigido tres cortometrajes fantásticos: El primero, La hora de los Sueños (2015) fue acreedor a los premios de Mejor Cortometraje Animado en el Festival de Babel Cuzco, Perú (2016) y en el Festival de Hidden Door, Escocia (2016). Rodrigo ha sido seleccionado en tres ocasiones por parte del Festival Internacional de Cine en Morelia. Actualmente se encuentra en la producción de su próximo corto metraje El sauce fúnebre.

El cineasta Luis Tellez dice: “En sus animaciones surge una voz propia creando atmósferas inquietantes, no exento de la influencia de grandes surrealistas como Remedios Varo, Beksinski, o Jacek Yerka. Todo ello, alejándose de la narración aristotélica, e invitando al espectador a develar misterios y caminar con seres fantásticos, en una búsqueda casi kafkiana con la estructura del sueño mismo.”

La exposición reúne obras de Maike Kreichgauer. Enigmáticos y coloridos, sus oleos están repletos de inesperados animales, detalles y fabulas. Los cuadros de la artista alemana y la poética dentro de ellos cautivan al espectador: las pinceladas de Maike crean un vocabulario nuevo y luminoso para representar sus sueños:

“Los cocodrilos junto con las cerezas siempre aparecen en mis sueños y no sé porque. ¿Quizás significan diversión y alegría de vivir? Para mí, las gotas de agua, las plantas y las burbujas son símbolos que demuestran cómo todos nosotros formamos parte de un solo ser como con los elementos: el agua, el aire, la tierra y el fuego. Por ejemplo, en mi forma de ver, las perlas de mar son agua pero también creaturas femeninas".

 Maike ha realizado una serie de cuadros dibujando atrapasueños, estos artefactos, para ella representan el ciclo de la vida, captando símbolos como el amor, la unidad y una mezcla de diferentes culturas. Los nudos de las plantas siendo símbolos celtas, la artista los combina con diversos símbolos mexicanos y europeos. En sus pinturas, los colibríes también son recurrentes: ella recuerda sus dos años viviendo en México cuando tenía varios en su jardín y dice: “Para mí ellos son la felicidad, exóticos, minúsculos, divertidos y coloridos”.

El artista alemán Maike Kreichgauer, nacida en 1972 en Mannheim, vivió y trabajó durante dos años en San Luis Potosí.  Fue inspirada por los grandes surrealistas de México como Leonora Carrington, Edward James, Remedios Varo y Frida Kahlo. Maike ha ilustrado cuatro libros  infantiles y ha publicado sus propios cuentos, poemas, calendarios y postales.

La exposición colectiva se extenderá hasta el 22 de abril de 2019. Los artistas estarán presentes en el coctel de inauguración. El horario de la galería es de lunes a sábado de 10:00 am a 6:00 pm, cerrado los miércoles y el domingo de 11:00 am a 4:00pm.
