Joan Hall, David Dykes, Catherine Marenghi, Poetry Café

Three well-traveled writers will present their poems at Poetry Café Bellas Artes on March 15th.

Native New Yorker, Joan Hall, is a writer, poet, and a pioneer in the field of collage and assemblage illustration. She has been a resident of Westbeth Artist Housing in New York City since 1971.

Joan is the recipient of the 2018 Miriam Chaikin Endowment Foundation for Writing Award, established in memory of a prolific writer and longtime resident of Westbeth.
Hall’s collages and assemblages have been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, including the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City.
Joan illustrated “The Policeman’s Beard Is Half-Constructed,” the first book ever written by a computer with a program called Racter and published by Warner Books.
Known for her artwork, Joan has also been writing poetry since she was 8 years old, when her poem, “Spring” won best in class. She is presently illustrating a book of her own poetry.
David Dykes is a writer and teacher living in San Miguel. He is from Tennessee by way of Texas and New Orleans.

He earned his MFA in poetry from Texas State. He can be heard most weeks on the Atticus Shrugged podcast.

Catherine Marenghi is an award-winning poet and writer, recently relocated to San Miguel. Her poems have appeared in “Solamente en San Miguel” and in “Crossroads.” One of her poems was the 2018 winner of the Crossroads Flash Writing Contest in the poetry category, selected by poet Richard Blanco. Commenting on her poem, Blanco described “a deft command of figurative language and metaphor, which are the essence of poetry. … Catherine Marenghi unravels and elucidates the complexities of longing,
passion and love.”

Catherine’s writings include “Glad Farm: A Memoir,” a powerful story of poverty,
resilience, and the triumph of life over death. She holds an M.A. in English from Tufts University where she studied with Denise Levertov.

Founded in January of 2016, Poetry Café Bellas Artes meets monthly, September through April. This all-volunteer community organization features local and visiting poets (established and emerging) sharing original work in a casual setting.
