San Miguel Playwrights Winter Showcase 2018

The San Miguel Playwrights are pleased to present their Winter Showcase of short plays written by eight different local authors. There will be two afternoon performances on Thursday and Sunday, January 18 and 21 at 3pm and two evening performances Friday and Saturday, January 19 and 20 at 7pm. Reserved seat tickets for 150 pesos are on sale now online at sanmiguelplayhouse.com or in person at Mesones #57—Corner of Mesones & Relox (inside small plaza), Monday through Saturday from 2:30-5:30pm.

This fourth annual event will take place at the San Miguel Playhouse, Av. Independencia 82. Each play is an original piece written by a San Miguel playwright, directed and acted by local creative and experienced talent.

The evening includes script-in-hand performances of:
 
1. Sitting Pretty (Marilyn Bullivant)
Setting: A beautiful house in the country
Actors: Marilyn Bullivant and Rick Davey

2. Double Booked (Marthe Fraser)
Setting: A hotel room             
Actors: Catherine Bryne and Marc Taylor
 
3. Triple O.G. (Geoff Hargreaves)
Setting: An ordinary living room
Actors: Chris Kapilla, Maggie Bunce, and Gerri Baruch

4. What Would Henry Do? (Chris Kapilla)
Setting: A psychiatrist’s office in a private hospital
Actors: Lee Harris and Richard Fink

 5. Intensive Care (Dennis Lanson)
Setting: The intensive care ward and waiting room of a hospital. 
Actors: Mick Diener, Lee Harris, and Anne Campbell 
 
6. The Queen of the Radio Airwaves (Lee Daneker)
Setting: A broadcast studio in a Querétaro radio station and various other locations in Querétaro.
Actors: Estéban Betancourt, Crystal Calderoni, and Azzah Manukova

7. Los Perros Callejeros (Anne Campbell)
Setting: The office of the President of the Society for the Protection of Animals  (SPA)
Actors: Maggie Bunce and Gerri Baruch
 
8. The Heist  (Phoebe Greyson)
Setting: A bookstore in Vancouver, B.C., Canada 1975
Actors: Phoebe Greyson and Richard Fink

Our Playwrights:

Marilyn Bullivant is a writer and performer and her satirical comedy and artistic endeavors have been featured in various venues around the world.

Anne Campbell has performed in many productions in New York City and now in San Miguel. She is a member of The Improv People.

Prior to retirement Lee Daneker worked for the US EPA and in the commercial fishing industry in Seattle and Alaska.

Marthe Fraser has long been involved with San Miguel theater as an actress, producer, director, and playwright. She’s now writing ten-minute plays.

Phoebe Greyson has acted, directed, and produced theatrical productions in San Miguel since 2008.

Geoff Hargreaves' main interest is Classical Greek tragedy. He has translated six published novels from Spanish to English.

Since his retirement, Chris Kapilla has been writing plays and acting. He is a member of The Improv People.

Dennis Lanson’s working life was spent combining personal documentary filmmaking and teaching film at the college level. Directed and produced one very indie feature, Pitstop.
