Women's Voices - talk

Mary Jane Miller will discuss the absence of women's voices in the church and their images in the sacred art of iconography. The talk will be accompanied by a power point presentation of classic iconography and her own collection of new images from her latest book, In Light of Women.

Mary Jane is fast becoming an catalyst for opening that discussion and raising interesting perspectives on old stories. Women are finding themselves in a new world, finally after 2,000 years. The church authorities have greatly influenced the place of women on all levels of society along with a good bit of suppression. Today new insights into women like Mary Magdalene are challenging our contemporary landscape. Art and image are powerful tools to bring about that change.
