Reception & Artist talk

By Roberto Salas

use a multidisciplinary approach in my art to explore diverse cultural iconography and express and interpret it by creating large scale Public Art pieces. Earning my MFA degree at the University of California in San Diego in 1988, put me in touch with an Arts faculty which represented some of the great modern artists of the 20th Century. Studying with teachers including David and Eleanor Antin, Manny Farber, Jean-Pierre Gorin, and Allan Kaprow influenced me to merge theoretical concepts about art with practical works of art including murals, paintings, and sculptures.

My love for travel and for exploring cultures around the world has inspired me to create art within diverse cultural pockets, as in the Arctic Circle, in the deep south of Louisiana, in Bali, Indonesia, China, and in Mexican villages.

Teaching Public art has become my passion whether at the college level or involving teens to paint murals in their neighborhoods..this is my way of giving back to the community.. I try to keep exploring, sketching, and growing with each Art project I design.
