Final Spring Poetry Café Bellas Artes

Three celebrated poets will be featured at the final Poetry Café Bellas Artes of the spring season on April 18th at 5:00 PM.

Jack Little (London, UK, 1987) is a British-Mexican poet, translator and editor. He has lived in Mexico City for ten years, with one year of that time spent in Spain. He has participated in several literary events including La Fería del Libro en el Zócalo, The Linares Literary Festival and Transmedia Shakespeare. He was the summer poet in residence at the Heinrich Böll House in Ireland in 2016. His first poetry pamphlet, “Elsewhere” was published by Eyewear, London in 2015 and his first full collection will be published in the UK in 2020 by Red Squirrel Press. Jack is the founding editor of The Ofi Press.

A Massachusetts native, happily transplanted in San Miguel, Catherine Marenghi is an award-winning poet and memoirist. She was twice winner of the Crossroads Flash Writing Contest; Jennifer Clement selected her poem “A Letter to My Son in Brooklyn,” and Richard Blanco selected her poem “Long-Awaited Man.” She won first-place poetry prize at the Marblehead Festival of the Arts, Marblehead, MA., and she was twice winner of the Academy of American Poets University and College Poetry Prize at Tufts University. Her poetry has been published in Crossroads, Solamente en San Miguel, Italian Americana, Mobius, Conclave, and Pantoums for the 21st Century.

Catherine is also author of Glad Farm: A Memoir (2016), an acclaimed story of poverty, resilience, and the power of a house to shape our destiny. She earned an M.A., B.A. summa cum laude from Tufts University, where she studied poetry under Denise Levertov and X.J. Kennedy.

Mary Katherine Wainwright is a retired professor of American literature currently living in San Miguel de Allende. She earned her Ph.D. in American Studies at Purdue University, and taught literature for over thirty years in major U.S. colleges and universities, including State College of Florida, Eckerd College, College of Staten Island, and the University of South Florida.
Mary Katherine has received numerous fellowships and awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the McKnight Foundation for Education, among others, and her poetry has been published in literary journals, including Kalliope, Phoebe, and Sarasota Review. A Taste of Salt is her first published collection of poetry.

Founded in January 2016, Poetry Café Bellas Artes meets on the third Thursday, September through April. It is an all-volunteer organization featuring local and visiting poets (established and emerging) sharing their work in a casual setting.
The next Poetry Café event will be the annual Summer Open Mic on July 25th. Bring your best short form poem, or two, to share.
