Poetry Presentations at Bellas Artes:
James Cervantes, Ravi Nathwani, Kathe Jordan

Three celebrated poets will present their work at Poetry Café on October 18th.

James Cervantes's latest book is From Mr. Bondo’s Unshared Life, a series of closely related persona poems. Sleepwalker's Songs: New & Selected Poems, published in 2012, is comprised of 32 new poems and poems selected from six previous collections. Other books include Temporary Meaning, The Headlong Future, The Year Is Approaching Snow, and Changing The Subject, a dialogue in poems with Halvard Johnson. He was editor of The Salt River Review for thirteen years and is currently Foreign Correspondent for Hinchas de Poesia. He is the editor of In Like Company: The Porch & Salt River Review Anthology, published by Mad Hat Press. Cervantes has been publishing poetry in print since 1969 and almost exclusively online since 1997.

James studied at the University of Washington with David Waggoner, Mark Strand, and Richard Hugo, and earned his MFA at the University of Iowa’s Writer’s Workshop.

Ravi Nathwani, co-editor of Mala of the Heart - 108 Sacred Poems and Mala of Love 108 Luminous Poems was born in a business family in East Africa and raised in India in the Vaishnav Hindu tradition. He lectures on a variety of Vedic studies and teaches Yoga Teacher Training workshops across the USA.  

Ravi created a new course, Hindu Yoga & Buddhist Meditation, and taught it at Tufts University from 1998-2014. He also taught at JFK University in California. In the United States and Mexico he leads satsangs and meditation groups and teaches the Bhagvad Gita, Yoga Sutras, Law of Karma and Advaita Vedanta. 

Ravi has an MBA from Boston University and has lived in Mumbai, London, Boston, San Francisco and Mexico.

Kathryn Jordan is a writer and musician from Berkeley, CA. Her chapbook, Riding Waves, was published by Finishing Line Press in February, 2018. She is the 2016 winner of San Miguel de Allende Writer’s Conference Prize for Poetry and her work has been published in The Sun Magazine, Roar, Quiet Lightning, Bay Area Generations, Crossroads, and in the anthology, Solamente en San Miguel. Her short story, “Cookie,” won the Elizabeth Mills Crothers Prize for Short Story at UC Berkeley.

Founded in January of 2016, Poetry Café Bellas Artes meets monthly, September through April. This all-volunteer organization features local and visiting poets (established and emerging) sharing original work in a casual setting.
