Simple, Beautiful and Creative! Ignite your creativity through old school photography in the beauty of Alcocer. Photograms are black-and-white images that are created without cameras by placing objects on photographic paper, exposing them to light, and printing them in an analogue darkroom. Discover the magic of the traditional darkroom, watching images slowly appear under the red safe lights. In the workshops, students will learn the history of photograms, the basics of exposure, pictorial composition, analogue black-and-white darkroom printing, and advanced darkroom techniques. They will experiment and create bodies of work based on their personal visions. The instructors will guide each person both technically and artistically in the pursuit of their vision.

Turn inspiration into action. Creating photograms is easy and the results are surprising, and inspiring! No prior experience is necessary.

Photograms in 3D Space will take place on Monday and Tuesday, November 12 and 13, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Students will choose from a collection of transparent objects to create their photograms. They will work in the darkroom, and learn the advanced technique of solarization.

Workshop transportation will be provided from and to Office Depot at La Luciérnaga mall 15 minutes before and at end of each class. Alcocer is a Mexican village with an X-Hacienda and breath-taking views. Agave Darkroom is next to the Picachos mountain and the snacks and fresh bread provided for the break include the mountain view! Note that the classes involve walking outside and using a darkroom in a basement one flight of stairs down from ground level.

Students are welcome to bring small, translucent objects from home that they would like to incorporate into their photograms, such as bits of fabric, glass beads, jewelry and trinkets. They should wear comfortable shoes and clothing and bring a hat, apron, and plastic gloves. Healthy snacks will be provided during the mid-day breaks (please alert the instructors of any dietary restrictions).

Mary Meade (www.marymmeade.com) is a book designer, illustrator and fine art photographer who has exhibited her work in Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende. She earned an MFA from the Instituto Allende. Agave Darkroom is located at her home in Alcocer. Besides teaching darkroom photography, Mary works as a mentor and designer for those embarking on the journey of self-publishing.

Ri Anderson (www.rianderson.com) received her MFA with a concentration in photography from Massachusetts College of Art. Her fine art photography has been shown at museums and galleries throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, and China. She has taught at a variety of universities, including Massachusetts College of Art, the Boston Photo Collaborative, and the DeCordova Museum School. She co-owns and runs a fine art printing business San Antonio Editions and runs a design business Ri Anderson Designs specializing in fine lamps and wallcoverings.
